To update the Winlink System Catalog on Airmail: 1. open the catalog by either clicking on the Catalog Icon in the Icon tray a. The catalog icon should be the fifth icon from the right. b. If you hover the mouse pointer over the icon it should say "Open Text-Weather Window" c. Click on the Icon to open the catalog. or: 2. Click on the Window tab in the Menu Bar. a. Click on the Catalogs option under the Windows menu option. 3. This will open the catalog interface. 4. In the left column click on the Global tab under the WL2K tab. 5. In the right windows pane find the entry at the top of the interface labeled "List" 6. Click the check box to request a catalog "list". Do not use the "update" option in the catalog. This feature is not working. a. This will create a message and put the message in the "outbox". 7. Use the same steps you would to send a message to a gateway, either HF or VHF, or through the internet using the telnet feature. 8. Send the message with the catalog request. 9. Wait a few minutes and check to see if the catalog update message is in the queue for you to retrieve. 10. After you retrieve the message with the catalog place the cursor on the message in the inbox message list and click once. 11. Clicking once will not open the message but it will update the catalog. a. If you accidentally open the message there is no harm. You will see the catalog in its raw format. But more importantly the catalog will be updated. 12. Reopen the catalog interface using step 1 or 2. Look over the catalog offerings. 13. if you are not familiar with using the catalog let's do a quick request to get a catalog offering. a. In the left window pane scroll down to WX_US and click on that tab. b. In the right window pane scroll down until you find the wx forecast for the area you are in or any area of the U.S. that you might have an interest in. c. Click the check box associated with the catalog item you want to request. d. Click on the "close" button in the lower right corner of the catalog window. i. This will post the request to the outbox. e. Using the procedures that you normally use to send a message send the catalog request. f. Wait a few minutes and check to see if the reply is in the queue. g. After you receive the reply open the message that will contain the catalog product or look for an attachment to open that will contain the catalog product. 14. Now explore the catalog and look for entries that may be of interest to you, a family member, or if you are working with an Emergency Manager something that might be of interest to that person.
